Megan approaches producing and coaching from a holistic perspective, and her success in both areas is as much due to her self-awareness as it is due to experience and technical knowhow. One core component of her coaching is exploring the relationship between a producer’s self-esteem and their fundraising prowess. “Artists are scrappy. We are competent and know how to put a show or project together, but we often are blocked when it comes to asking for money from investors. I know it used to make me nauseous,” Megan shares. “If you can get over this, the budgets you work with will double or triple.”

Post college, Megan would continue as an indie producer for nearly a decade before accepting a position at a science and business startup. There, she learned about pitching, building investment decks, writing mission statements, and fundraising. Lessons from this hard-boiled business bootcamp have stayed with Megan, as has a passion for science which often is woven into her productions.

Megan lost the science job, and her boyfriend passed away suddenly around the same time. This one-two punch of traumatic events sent her into a spiral. She attended her first silent meditation retreat to process and move past the pain. When she returned, she took a position at the world-renowned theatrical franchise, Blue Man Group. However, while there, Megan found herself never becoming the leader she envisioned herself being despite grinding out 12-14-hour days.

Desperate for change, she tried working with two coaches. One helped Megan dream big, and the other helped her map out the accountable steps to summit those dreams. These complementary approaches have become crucial to Megan’s work. “When I began my own coaching journey with POE Coaching, I decided to merge these big picture and granular perspectives,” Megan says. She continues: “People have trouble saying out loud their deepest and biggest dreams. I help them talk candidly about their ambitions, and then guide them as a detail-oriented coach to get there.”

Informing her work as a coach and a producer is Megan’s fierce commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity in the entertainment industry, and her personal mental health and wellness journeys. “Many people see me as the calm in the middle of the storm, but it took a ton of work to get here,” she says laughing.
